ICOLD annual meeting 2023 and symposium on Management for Safe Dams

The mission of ICOLD is setting standards and guidelines to ensure that dams and levees are built and operated safely, efficiently, economically, and are environmentally sustainable and socially equitable.

The purpose of the symposium on Management for Safe Dams is to share information from case studies, technologies, and innovations to increase the safety of dams and levees along with their associated benefits, perfectly fitting with the essential commitment of ICOLD to Dam Safety.

During the annual meeting and symposium there will be workshops, courses, panel discussions and presentations.

Marie is also involved in research and affiliated researcher at Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm at the department of Soil and Rock Mechanics.

Expert Concrete Dams and Seismicity

Dr. Martin Wieland has been the Chairman of the ICOLD Committee on Seismic Aspects of Dam Design since 1999 and has more than 40 years of experience in dam and earthquake engineering. He has worked in 35 countries, on 115 dam projects and obtained his civil engineering degrees from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. He has authored 300 technical papers in the fields of dam and earthquake engineering and is an Honorary Member of ICOLD.

Lisa Bergensten

Section Manager Dams, Geotechnical & Structural Engineering

Lisa Bergensten is a consultant specialized in dam safety of embankment dams and tailing dams. Her experience includes works on feasibility studies, detail design and various inspections and site supervision. She has about 10 years of experience and has worked in many parts of Sweden. Her professional focus is dam safety related projects, and she has been involved in both refurbishment projects and in various risk assessments and analyses of data to evaluate embankment dams regarding dam safety.

Hydrology, Inflow Forecasting, Reservoir Operation

Dr. Harald Kling is a senior hydrologist at AFRY and has 20 years of professional experience. He holds an MSc in Water Management and a PhD in Hydrology from the University for Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria. At AFRY he is responsible for climate change impact assessments as well as the development of operational inflow forecasting systems to support hydropower operations, currently in use for example at the Niger and Zambezi rivers. At ICOLD he is a member of Technical Committee Y Climate Change.
