Global Citizen story Munich to Vantaa
As part of AFRY Management Consulting's Global Citizen programme, Johannes Rahm embarked on a relocation journey from Munich, Germany to Vantaa, Finland. This unique experience not only provided him with fresh perspectives on daily work, but also introduced him to fascinating colleagues, fostering exciting synergies for project collaboration.

Which is your home office and country?
Munich, located in Germany.
Could you please explain your role at AFRY Management Consulting and how long you have been with the company?
I have been at AFRY for the past two and a half years and my expertise lies in market modelling for (paper) waste. I've had the opportunity to contribute to various projects within the broader wood value chain.
What inspired you to participate in the Global Citizen programme and where did you decide to transfer to?
A large part of my team (paper & waste) is located in Vantaa, near Helsinki. Even though I work with them almost daily, I wanted to strengthen personal connections and get to know them better. This also included my line manager at the time. Given the relatively small size of the Munich office, I looked forward to an opportunity to further expand my network to other teams and expertise areas. I hoped an exchange to the office in Vantaa would give me the chance to do exactly that.
Please share your most memorable moments from your stay, including both project experiences and highlights that made your time truly special.
I have a vivid memory of a project where we created custom-tailored market scenarios for a client. This collaborative effort not only yielded exceptional results for the client but also evolved into a methodology that we now regularly employ.
During my time in Finland, I've not only experienced professional growth but also had the privilege of enjoying memorable non-work-related moments. These include midnight boat tours during Juhannus, Finnish Vappu celebrations, band practice with "Lost Komppi" for the AFRY summer party, and unforgettable karaoke nights.
Did you experience any challenges?
The team in Vantaa helped me get settled in fast and well.
What valuable takeaways did you bring home with you?
I feel like I really profited from my colleagues in the office. I learnt many new approaches to our daily work and got to know really interesting people, which created exciting synergies for project work. Overall, the AFRY exchange was a huge motivational boost for me.
