Global Citizen story Stockholm to London

Martin Lantz, a Senior Consultant from the energy team in Stockholm, Sweden, applied for AFRY Management Consulting's global citizen programme to try his wings in London, UK.

His time in the programme has made Martin increasingly consider international opportunities at AFRY and grow on both a professional and personal level while building his international network within AFRY Management Consulting.

Could you please explain your role at AFRY Management Consulting and how long you have been with the company?

I have quite a broad background working across energy vectors and different service lines. However, lately, I have been focusing more on projects related to flexibility. I have been with the company for almost four years.

What inspired you to participate in the Global Citizen programme, and where did you decide to transfer to?

I have always wanted to work abroad ever since doing an exchange semester at Uni. The key drivers have been to work in a more international context and meet new colleagues. Currently, I am based in AFRY Management Consulting's London office.

Please share your most memorable moments from your stay, including both project experiences and highlights that made your time truly special.

The projects have been very interesting so far, especially related to flexibility since the UK is an interesting market, being an island and quite innovative in terms of policies and regulations. I have had the chance to work with e.g. hydrogen storage assessment in GB, assessment of the potential of Vehicle-to-everything (V2X), and numerous commercial battery assessments.

Obviously, it is lovely to live in London and be able to experience it with colleagues as well as newfound friends in this city.

Have you experienced any challenges?

There have not been any major challenges as of now, although it did take some time to get used to London.

How has the Global Citizen programme benefitted you? What valuable takeaways can you bring home with you?

AFRY is an international company, so there are many opportunities if one wants to work in a more international environment.

Working in the UK has resulted in great personal development for me, both in terms of experience in the energy sector – as I have worked on new types of projects and in new roles, but also on a personal level.

In addition, I've made plenty of new contacts within AFRY Management Consulting, which will be beneficial when I move back to my home office.
