AFRY offers offshore wind services in Australia through collaboration with Entura
AFRY is expanding its renewable energy services in Australia, working alongside local power and water consulting business Entura to strengthen support for Australia’s emerging offshore wind sector.
Together, AFRY and Entura will assist offshore wind farm feasibility license holders preparing to participate in Victoria’s upcoming offshore wind auction process. Victoria has set ambitious targets of 2 GW of offshore wind by 2032, 4 GW by 2035 and 9 GW by 2040.
“Australia’s offshore wind energy potential is vast and AFRY is actively expanding its presence in renewable energy across the country. Our in-depth knowledge of offshore wind auction mechanisms and our track record of helping clients to win bids and develop projects make the AFRY–Entura partnership a strong platform for success in the Australian market.”
– Petteri Härkki, Acting Head of Renewables & Energy storage.
A milestone for Victoria’s clean energy future
The Victorian Government has already awarded 11 feasibility licenses off the coast of Gippsland, the region expected to host Australia’s first operational offshore wind farms in the early 2030s. These projects will play a key role in achieving Australia’s clean energy goals and net zero ambition.
The state’s offshore wind auction will be open exclusively to feasibility license holders, offering Contracts for Difference.
Proven global experience, local expertise
Offshore wind technology is well established in Europe and Asia, with some growth in North America. Since the first offshore wind farm was built in Denmark in 1991, global installed capacity has reached around 85 GW.
AFRY brings extensive international experience in offshore wind, having supported projects in about 30 countries worldwide. Our expertise includes technical advisory, cost analysis, site characterization, due diligence and package management, as well as commercial and auction support. To date, AFRY has contributed to more than 90 GW of offshore and onshore wind projects as Technical Advisor and Commercial and Market Advisor.
Entura will provide critical local insights to help navigate Australia’s regulatory frameworks and stakeholder expectations. With its long track record in the Australian renewable energy sector, Entura will deliver tailored bid support and engagement strategies.
“We are excited to contribute our local insights and broad experience of renewable energy technology and grid integration to support this new frontier for Australia’s sustainable energy future. As part of Hydro Tasmania, Entura has been at the forefront of renewables since the beginnings of hydropower in Tasmania more than a century ago. We were integral to Tasmania’s first wind farms and the world-leading, innovative hybrid renewable projects on remote King and Flinders islands in Bass Strait. We’re proud to share what we’ve learnt from our work in Australia and across the Indo-Pacific and we’re eager to keep learning more as we work with international partners like AFRY.”
