AFRY hosts the Sahlgrenska Global Health hackathon in Malmö

Join us to tackle the global health challenges

AFRY is excited to host the Sahlgrenska Global Health Hackathon in Malmö during the first weekend of February. This event brings together innovators, healthcare professionals, students, and researchers to tackle global health challenges and create collaborative and impactful solutions.

The event in Malmö is part of a larger initiative by Sahlgrenska Science Park, a global series of weekend events that will take place in cities like Barcelona, Miami, and Singapore, leading up to a grand finale at the Nordic Life Science Days.

"Sahlgrenska Global Health Hackathon is a bold initiative, bringing together partners across the globe. We’re going to three continents, six countries and nine locations," says Cecilia Edebo, CEO Sahlgrenska Science Park.

Why is AFRY hosting this event?

Healthcare systems worldwide are struggling with ageing populations, chronic diseases, and unequal access to care. Traditional solutions are no longer enough. That’s why Sahlgrenska Science Park, AFRY, and AstraZeneca, together with a diverse range of global partners, have joined forces to drive innovation and create real impact.

At AFRY, we know that collaboration is key to tackling these challenges. This hackathon brings together students, clinicians, researchers, and entrepreneurs to use AI, data-driven tech, and personalised medicine to solve global health issues. Together, we can create solutions to transform millions of lives.

"This is an opportunity for AFRY to be part of something revolutionary and to show that we can help and support without wide knowledge and expertise. AFRY will be at the centre of innovation and the future of Medtech and life science," says Siri Berghnéhr, UX designer and co-founder of the AFRY FemTech network.

Who can join? Everyone!

One of the unique aspects of the Sahlgrenska Global Health Hackathon is its inclusivity. You don’t need to be a coding expert or a seasoned health professional to participate.

"Anyone who is at least 18 years old can join. It doesn’t matter which industry you are from or what background you have; it’s well enough that you’re passionate about making a change in the healthcare system," says Sara Nozohouri, Associate Director & Business Process Owner at Astra Zeneca, who hosts the Stockholm hackathon.

All you need is an interest in solving problems and making healthcare better. Whether your expertise lies in tech, management, or policy, or you simply have big ideas to share, this is your chance to be part of something bigger.

What’s in it for you?

As part of the hackathon, you’ll get to work collaboratively on real-world problems, receive guidance from experienced professionals, and expand your network in life science and health innovation.

Participants will gain access to:

  • mentorship from industry leaders,
  • opportunities to showcase their ideas on a global stage,
  • the chance to play a role in addressing critical global health issues.

If your team’s idea stands out, you might even win the chance to present at the grand finale in Gothenburg, where top innovators from across the globe will gather.
