AFRY supports 3M in developing a welding helmet with ground breaking technology
AFRY has recently supported a project for 3M that involved advanced mechanical design of a welding helmet. The styling and human interfaces are developed in cooperation with McKinsey design team.
With an adjustable color auto darkening filter, a wide grinding visor and a, new to the world, respiratory protection system with adjustable air distribution, the new helmet for 3M introduces ground breaking technologies for welding protectors.
AFRY’s design team has been involved from start in the mechanical design of the product from first conceptual sketches and 3D printing of prototypes to the final capability runs for mass production.
“The support from the AFRY team has been essential in the process of moving from ideas, sketches and concepts to designing robust components ready for volume production”, says Nichlas Sjöselius, Lab Manager 3M.
The helmet, that goes under the name Speedglas G5-01 is now finally launched globally by 3M.
“I’m proud of the excellent work from the team players at AFRY. Our team has been a part of the development of a new product for a global brand and a market leader in its segment. This is truly making future in product development that will provide good health and safety for many welders worldwide”, says Mats Svensson, Business Unit Manager Connected Products at AFRY.
