In addition, they have extended their offer to include a digital service, WeldWard, that simplifies everyday life for the person in charge of welding.

-We have developed WeldWard because our customers have requested a tool, since they experience challenges in handling welding documentation. WeldWard will make it easier for the person in charge of welding to keep order on every document related to welding, says Per Händemark, Qualification Center.

Test Center is complemented with Qualification Center

Test Center started their long journey towards extended accreditation of their business all the way back in 2020.

- The process of developing Qualification Center has been both challenging and educational. The personnel have been whole heartedly devoted to this challenge and the accreditation process, and it has been crucial for the implementation says Magnus Skärhem, Business Unit manager at Test and Qualification Center.

The businesses are separated by Test Center preforming testing while Qualification Center orders testing and analyzes the results. Within material testing, the businesses are overlapping, creating synergies.

- However, they are not to be confused with the advisory and educational businesses within welding and materials at AFRY. We are completely separate from one another, even corporately, Magnus explains.

Extended accrediting and offers for Test Center

In the summer of 2021, AFRY’s Test Center received accrediting in accordance with ISO 17025:2018, General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. Read the news in Swedish. The business is, in total, accredited for four different testing methods, fatigue testing of components as well as for three environmental resistance standards.

To extend the business of Test Center that traditionally worked with destructive testing, non-destructive testing is a natural step expanding the operation. Since this fall their offer has been extended to include some non-destructive testing through recruitments certified in ISO 9712. They have since been able to preform x-rays, ultrasounds, magnetic powder testing, visual inspections, and penetrant testing.

More accreditations before the summer

Furthermore, Qualification Center continues to expand their operation. They are currently striving to extend the accreditation to include SS-EN ISO 14732 - Welding personnel - Qualification testing of welding operators and weld setters for mechanized and automatic welding of metallic materials and SS-EN ISO 13585 - Brazing - Qualification test of brazers and brazing operators. The demand for these services will be drastically increasing due to the big industrial investment that is taking place in Sweden to accelerate the transition to sustainable alternatives for the energy sector and the production of fossil-free steel.
