AFRY's science-based targets are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative
We are happy to announce that AFRY’s science-based targets are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, meaning that they are externally validated to be in line with the 1.5°C ambition according to the latest climate science research.
AFRY has set science-based targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), meaning that our climate commitments are externally validated to be in line with the 1.5°C ambition according to the latest climate science research.
In November 2020, AFRY committed to setting targets in line with the 1.5°C ambition with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). These targets were developed and submitted in 2021 and validated in Q1 2022.

AFRY’s validated targets
AFRY’s science-based targets are aligned with Carbon Law, meaning the halving CO2 emissions by 2030 trajectory. The formally approved science-based targets are the following:
AFRY commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions 36% by 2027 from a 2019 base year. AFRY also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from business travel 36% within the same timeframe. AFRY further commits that 87% of its suppliers by spend covering purchased goods and services and capital goods will set science-based targets by 2027.
Global warming has reached 1.07°C and science says that we need to limit warming to 1.5°C to avoid high risk of catastrophic consequences for people and the living environment. Science-based targets, with emphasis on science, have never been more important when it comes to corporate climate action. Having our science-based targets been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative is an important step along our journey. Now we will continue to support our clients in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Climate action at AFRY
AFRY’s climate target relating to our own operations is to halve CO2 emissions by 2030 with 2019 as a base year and to achieve net zero emissions by 2040. Our largest impact is through our assignments, and we aim to increase the net positive impact through our assignments to accelerate the sustainability transition. About the Science Based Targets initiative
The SBTi is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that drives ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling organisations to set science-based emissions reduction targets. On the SBTi website you can find a list of companies taking action and what targets they have set.
