Light Bureau IALD award 2019 Stovner Tower

IALD Award 2019

ÅF Lighting receives the Award of Merit at the 36th annual International Lighting Design Awards in Philadelphia for the lighting design at Stovner Tower.

This unique and eye catching viewpoint in Oslo, Norway, is designed by LINK Arkitektur and includes several observation decks with a view of the valley and lookout over the treetops, with the Oslo Fjord in the distance. LINK Arkitektur is well-known for their ability to merge modern architecture with natural landscapes – and Stovner Tower is no exception.

The scenographic and functional lighting for the 260 meter long footbridge is inspired by the way birds circle in the air and designed to emphasize the tower’s magnificent architectural structure. The lighting is integrated into the architecture, with hidden light sources placed beneath eye level, providing a glare-free lighting with the aim to create a stunning landmark for Stovner after dark.

“I’m very excited to see our project selected and awarded in the company of such prestigious international projects. Together with the architects, we worked hard to create a peaceful walk among the tree tops with an undisturbed view at all hours. Overall, the lighting is designed to contribute to a sense of security in the area without causing light pollution or the risk of unnecessary light projected on to the surrounding areas. I’m proud that our efforts have been recognized by The International Association of Lighting Designers - a top honor in the lighting industry! ”, explains a proud Gry Frellumstad, project manager and lighting designer at ÅF Lighting in Oslo.

The IALD International Lighting Design Awards program is the longest running award program recognizing architectural lighting design excellence. The winners were announced during the 36th Annual IALD International Lighting Design Awards in Philadelphia, PA USA, Wednesday, 22 May 2019.

We are very honored that Stovner Tower has been chosen to set an example in lighting design excellence and judged as a winner in a field of more than 200 international entries. To have our design celebrated by the world’s most prestigious lighting design awards is exciting news for all of us at ÅF Lighting. Congratulations to the team for having created such a stunning project!”, says Head of ÅF Lighting, Jim Collin.
