A smarter grain refinery
Lantmännen is one of the Nordic region’s largest companies within agriculture, food, and energy. Lantmännen Biorefineries has chosen AFRY’s digital solution and system platform AFRY Improve to further enhance its production efficiency. This investment aligns with Lantmännen Biorefineries’ commitment to innovation, sustainability, and meeting increasing market demands.
Lantmännen is an agricultural cooperative owned by 17,000 Swedish farmers and is northern Europe’s leading player in agriculture, machinery, bioenergy, and food. Lantmännen Biorefineries is northern Europe’s largest agricultural‑based biorefinery. With a strong focus on resource efficiency and sustainability, grain and circular by‑products from the food industry are refined. The starches, proteins, and fibers contained in the raw materials are processed in high‑tech production facilities into products that help reduce climate impact.
AFRY Improve is designed to maximize productivity by improving production line availability and enabling users to proactively manage and optimize resources. Through a user‑friendly interface, users can easily monitor production processes, identify where efforts are needed, and thereby achieve a higher degree of efficiency.
“We chose to implement AFRY Improve to continue developing and optimizing our production. With the help of this solution, we can better meet the increased sustainability requirements and ensure that our production facilities are both resource‑efficient and future‑proof,” says Johanna Löfroth, Head of Operations LM Biorefineries.
The implementation of AFRY Improve will focus on specialized functionality for information management, decision support, and visualization, giving Lantmännen Biorefineries the ability to closely monitor and visualize specific sustainability‑related KPIs.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to support Lantmännen Biorefineries with our digital expertise and operational know‑how, and we look forward to contributing to their digitalization journey. AFRY Improve will deliver a flexible and adaptable solution that supports the development of the smart, connected factory of the future,” says David Andersson, Service Market Area Manager Industrial IT at AFRY.
AFRY Improve was commissioned at Lantmännen Biorefineries in Norrköping in 2025.
