ÅF is proud to announce that the Nant de Drance 900 MW pumped storage power plant in the swiss alps has been shortlisted as "Major Tunneling Project of the Year".
The Nant de Drance pumped storage power plant is currently under construction in the swiss alps. It has recently been shortlisted as "Major Tunneling Project of the Year", one of the cathegories of the International Tunneling & Underground Space Awards 2014. The winners will be announced at the awards that takes place December 4th 2014.
The pump storage hydropower scheme makes use of a difference in height of up to 395 meters between two existing reservoirs connected through a system of underground waterways. The powerhouse cavern is 52 meters high, 32 meters wide and 190 meters long to house six 150 MW pump turbines. The scheme is scheduled to start producing electric energy in 2018. ÅF in Switzerland is responsible for the concept and the overall design of the project.
