ÅF has been contracted to deliver technical consultancy services to modernize the general hospitals in Gävle and Hudiksvall, Sweden.
ÅF will develop the preliminary design for electrical systems, telecommunications, heating, air conditioning, sanitation, geophysical services, water and sewage, control systems, acoustics, construction, environmental coordination and fire protection.
Healthcare is developing quickly, and there is a growing need to modernize the two general hospitals in the Gävleborg region. Therefore, regional authorities plan major investment at Gävle and Hudiksvall hospitals. This amounts to considerable improvements with the construction of new buildings as well of renovation of facilities for care and treatment. The hospitals will remain fully operational during the building period, which poses an extra challenge.
”We will create safe, sustainable facilities adapted for the needs of patients and staff. Ones which are flexible enough to be easily adapted as needs change over time. That means robust technical systems, and standardised functions and solutions,” says Krister Persson, secrtion manager at ÅF and company coordinator for the project.
Helena Ribacke, who is the regional facilities manager, is a driving force in the project. She has termed the work carried out during the preliminary study efficient and competent and claims to place considerable trust in the team responsible for it, including technical consultants involved.
”Having the same group of consultants go on to construct the preliminary design will ensure that the work progresses efficiently, as we have a tight schedule. It is all due to be completed by 2021, says Helena Ribacke.
The aim is for the new buildings to meet high environmental standards according to Swedish sustainability certification system Miljöbyggnad Silver.
