AFRY becomes supporting partner to The 1.5°C Business Playbook

Mon, 18/05/2020 - 09:00 CEST

AFRY is now partner to the first business playbook for exponential climate action. The initiative was launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2020, and aims to help companies and organisations align with the 1.5°C ambition, halving emissions every decade to reach net zero by 2050 at the latest.

“Together with our partners, AFRY is committed to tackle the global challenges of our time. We are aligning our operations with The 1.5°C Business Playbook as it is based on the latest science and the ambition to limit global warming to 1.5°C – this means that we are making sure that we at least halve our emissions every decade until we reach net zero by 2050 at the latest”, says Jonas Gustavsson, President and CEO AFRY.

The 1.5°C Business Playbook is a spin-off from the world-leading Exponential Roadmap Initiative which brings together innovators, scientists, companies and NGOs.

“Scaling up already existing technological solutions, together with key enablers such as digitalization and innovative partnerships as offered through the 1.5ºC Business Playbook, will create the conditions for exponential change and climate action that is so much needed”, says Marie Trogstam, Head of Sustainability AFRY.

Through this partnership, AFRY is aligning its climate strategy with the latest research and world-renowned experts in this field such as Johan Falk and Johan Rockström.

“This Playbook is aligned with the target to limit global warming to just 1.5°C. The only pathway left is massive emissions reductions across all business sectors in the next decade. We show that this is achievable”, says Johan Rockström, Director of Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).

The Playbook is based on four pillars: first, to reduce the company’s own emissions and then to reduce the company’s value chain emissions. The third pillar, and perhaps the most important, is to transform the company’s products, services and projects to generate low or zero emissions or even remove carbon from the atmosphere. The fourth pillar is to work with other actors in society to accelerate climate action.

About The 1.5°C Business Playbook:

This first Business Playbook for exponential climate action was launched at the World Economic Forum 2020 in Davos. It is a concrete tool guiding companies and organisations of all sizes to exponential climate action and helping them align with the 1.5°C ambition. Focused on simplicity and speed, and grounded in the latest science, it facilitates the first step of halving emissions, and aims at helping the global economy to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The 1.5°C Business Playbook is supported by more than 30 partners including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), WWF, Ericsson, IKEA, Scania and Skanska.
