Commissioned by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, AFRY Finland Oy will plan additional tracks for the railway section between Hyvinkää and Riihimäki, Finland, in collaboration with Sweco Finland Oy.
The assignment includes planning of an additional western track and a freight traffic track from the Hyvinkää station to the Riihimäki freight yard. The new tracks will streamline both passenger and freight traffic on Finland's busiest railway line between Helsinki and Riihimäki.
AFRY is responsible for railway and road planning, geotechnical engineering, environmental planning, civil and municipal infrastructure planning, project management, and bridge and structural engineering. AFRY is in charge of planning seven bridges along the railway, including their retaining walls and pile slabs. The assignment will be conducted under the four-year framework agreement extending to 2027 that AFRY has with the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
“AFRY is well positioned to lead the planning of this project. Our familiarity with the site, gained from managing its previous planning phase, ensures a seamless transition to the current phase. This project highlights AFRY's expertise in complex railway design, as well as our industry-leading capabilities in geotechnical and bridge engineering,” says Mikko Inkala, Director of AFRY's Transportation Business Unit in Finland.
The construction planning phase will continue until the end of 2026, after which construction will begin.
