AFRY has been confirmed as a trusted partner for the expansion of one of the largest floating solar projects in Thailand
National Power Supply Public Co., Ltd (NPS) has awarded AFRY a new owner’s engineering service assignment for its floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project expansion.
National Power Supply Public Co., Ltd (NPS) has awarded AFRY a new owner’s engineering service assignment for its floating solar photovoltaic (PV) project expansion.
The Thailand-based NPS is one of the leaders in the conventional and renewable energy business in the country. They are committed to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting the adoption of clean energy solutions for a more sustainable power production in Thailand.
NPS floating solar PV project is already one of the largest projects of its kind in the country. With the expansion of another 30MW, the floating solar installation will total 90MW, with one further expansion still being planned. AFRY has been the owner’s engineer for the tendering, design and construction of the complete 90MW floating solar project.
The complete project, including all three phases, is in Prachinburi, eastern Thailand. The generated power will be supplied to NPS at a 22kV level.
AFRY’s assignment includes preparation of the tender documents for various packages, evaluation of proposals, assistance during contract negotiations, project management, design review, and monitoring of construction and commissioning of the floating solar PV project.
“We are honoured to have the owner’s engineer role in this major floating solar PV development in Thailand that will help to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and speed up the energy transition in the country. Considering AFRY’s track record of more than 400 solar PV power projects in 60 countries, with over 32,000 MW of generating capacity globally, we are confident that we can add value for projects like this”, says Petteri Härkki, AFRY’s Managing Director for Thailand.
AFRY is one of the largest power sector engineering consulting companies in Thailand, with substantial involvement in the design and construction of more than 65 power plants and over 250 power sector-related assignments in the country. In Thailand, AFRY has worked in the solar PV, wind power, battery storage, hydropower, biomass, waste-to-energy, natural gas, liquified natural gas (LNG), biogas, nuclear power and transmission and distribution sectors.
