AFRY to lead major upgrade of Berlin commuter train line S25
AFRY has been commissioned to plan the double-track expansion of the Berlin commuter train line S25 between Schönholz and Hennigsdorf. The project is part of the i2030 program, which aims to strengthen public transport in the Berlin-Brandenburg region and enables a continuous 10-minute interval service on this key north-west axis of the Berlin commuter train line.
The expansion of the S25 will significantly enhance mobility in the Berlin metropolitan area and support future-proofing regional transport infrastructure. The 16-kilometer route includes the planning of 24 bridges and the construction and modernization of six stations. AFRY’s assignment also includes technical building equipment and the processing of surveying data.
The aim of the project is to provide a continuous 10-minute interval service on the specified section, significantly increasing the capacity and attractiveness of local public transport.
“This project represents a significant step toward improving sustainable mobility in the capital region. We are pleased to contribute our expertise to a development that will benefit both commuters and the wider community,” says Michael Backes, Head of Road & Rail Germany at AFRY.
Project planning is scheduled for completion in 2032.
