The Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) in Switzerland is now taking a significant step toward modernizing long-term infrastructure planning. In a new project, advanced artificial intelligence will be used to analyze extensive and diverse traffic datasets across Switzerland’s national road network.
This initiative is part of FEDRO’s broader digitalization strategy, which aims to unlock new possibilities for understanding traffic flows, enabling more targeted impact assessments of measures, and supporting long-term infrastructure planning.
By identifying patterns in both existing and newly collected data, the project aims to generate reliable forecasts and deliver actionable recommendations for future traffic management.
The implementation contract has been awarded to ASE AG, with expert support from AFRY and the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons (FHGR).
"We are delighted to contribute to a forward-looking project that is significantly advancing the digitalization of transport planning. Our technical expertise is helping to increase the efficiency and quality of operational traffic management," says Marcel Winter, SVP and Head of Segment Road & Rail at AFRY.
AFRY’s contract value amounts to approximately 3.5 MSEK. The project is scheduled to run from November 2025 until October 2029.
