The La Chaux-de-Fonds bypass is designed to redirect transit traffic from the city center, reducing noise and emissions to improve living conditions. The project, awarded by The Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), involves the planning and execution of interim roadworks at the Bas-du-Reymond junction, located near La Chaux-de-Fonds. These works are essential to ensure a smooth traffic flow and maintain service levels during the construction phase of the eastern and southern bypass.
The project focuses on improving key transport connections and traffic flow while enhancing safety. Upgrades include better road links at critical junctions, improved pedestrian and cycling paths, and modernized drainage systems to protect the environment. All measures are designed to support future development and minimize unnecessary work during this transitional phase.
“We are proud to contribute to making the infrastructure safer and more sustainable, providing better alleviation of traffic flows and better access to technical facilities underground”, says Marcel Winter, Head of Segment Road & Rail at AFRY.
AFRY’s scope of services includes civil engineering, traffic and environmental planning, as well as traffic studies and management plans for both the construction and operational phases. Furthermore, AFRY will handle environmental assessments, procurement and contract management, while ensuring construction quality, safety, and cost control.
The project is estimated to be finalized in 2030 and order value for AFRY is approximately 16 MSEK.
