Hitachi ABB Power Grids is taking the next step in its digitalisation journey by creating a digital twin of a robot cell in its production facility in Ludvika, Sweden. AFRY is supplying the advanced technology through its AFRY Real Digital Twin product.
A digital twin is a virtual copy of a physical object or system which provides the opportunity to build, test and verify the production environment in a virtual world that can simulate a variety of different conditions. It has a wide range of uses including predictive maintenance, operator training, optimisation and safety protocol simulations.
As a natural step towards increased digitalisation, Hitachi ABB Power Grids’ factory in Ludvika will now create a digital twin of a robot cell that handles capacitors. Through the AFRY Real Digital Twin, a virtual reality will be built as an exact copy of the planned physical equipment, allowing it to be trimmed and tested virtually and then implemented.
“Through this solution, we are strengthening our competitiveness in the global market, while once again demonstrating our commitment to a safe and ergonomic working environment. Like our technology, our production must be at the forefront of what is possible to meet the increased demand for products and solutions that will enable the green energy transition,” said Andreas Berthou, Global Product Group Manager of Hitachi ABB Power Grids’ HVDC & HVDC Service business.
One of the biggest advantages of the AFRY Real Digital Twin is that commissioning and ramp-up times are reduced, which means more sustainable production, lower production losses and reduced production costs.
“We are pleased that through AFRY Real Digital Twin we will be part of the digitalisation investment made by Hitachi Power Grids in Ludvika. We look forward to continued close cooperation in sustainable solutions for the industry,” said Per Kristian Egseth, Head of AFRY X.
