AFRY in Austria
AFRY’s strong roots in Austria have grown from contributing to an important part of the recent history of the Austrian economic system, which is inextricably linked with the construction and expansion of energy generation facilities - with hydropower providing the majority of energy. The storage facilities in Kaprun and the systematic development of the Danube hydropower plants are symbolic of the economic recovery in the second half of the 20th century, along with the hydro-thermal Verbund development of caloric power plant capacities. Ensuring a consistent supply of energy was one of the cornerstones of the economic recovery in Austria. Within this setting, the former Verbundplan GmbH, later Pöyry Energy GmbH and now AFRY Austria GmbH came into being in 1959.
