Energy security for Denmark

Partnering with Energinet to strengthen national grid defense

Denmark is strengthening its energy infrastructure to address an increasingly complex threat landscape and meet new legal requirements under the Act on Strengthened Preparedness in the Energy Sector (LOSB). Energinet’s nationwide security initiative ensures resilience across electricity and gas installations, both onshore and offshore, ensuring the protection of the country’s energy supply.

In response to rising hybrid threats, ranging from cyberattacks to physical intrusions and sabotage incidents in neighboring countries, Energinet is investing DKK 1.6 billion in enhanced physical protection, advanced monitoring, and upgraded security systems. These measures ensure compliance with LOSB and highlight Energinet’s critical role in safeguarding Denmark’s transmission network for the benefit of society.

As a trusted strategic partner, AFRY has supported Energinet throughout the planning and preparation of this major security initiative. Our teams have translated new statutory requirements into practical, robust and scalable solutions that align with Denmark’s strengthened security ambitions.

Delivering project management for a resilient future

AFRY’s contributions to the ARGUS project include:

  • Project management support: coordinating planning, stakeholder alignment, and program structure.
  • Risk and vulnerability assessments: addressing physical infrastructure and emerging threat vectors.
  • Security engineering expertise: integrating physical and electronic security measures across Energinet’s extensive asset portfolio.
  • Technical and organizational guidance: preparing for implementation across Denmark’s electricity and gas plants, both onshore and offshore.

A coordinated effort across Denmark’s energy sector

Energinet’s security program is a collaborative effort involving local grid companies and other facility owners, particularly at sites where multiple operators share infrastructure. The strengthened security model also includes ongoing cooperation with authorities, ensuring that incidents, suspicious activity, and evolving risks are addressed in close coordination with police and relevant government agencies.
