Expansion of sustainable packaging production, Metsä Board, Sweden
Towards sustainably produced packaging materials
The target is to increase the folding boxboard - sustainable packaging material - production capacity by 200,000 tonnes and is expected to have production full capacity by the end of 2025.
Due to consumer’s environmental awareness, the demand for wood-fibre-based products and packaging, such as folding boxboard, has increased. To meet the growing demand, Metsä Board is now investing towards more sustainable production with increased production efficiency and environmental performance. Metsä Board’s overall investment value is approximately EUR 210 million, and is estimated to increase the production capacity from 400,00 tonnes to 600,000 tonnes.
