Full digital modelling team for Polestar 4
AFRY delivered seamless collaboration during a critical development phase for automotive client
Polestar, a Swedish automotive manufacturer, is renowned for producing cutting-edge electric vehicles. During their transition from Volvo Cars, AFRY was chosen as a trusted partner to handle digital modelling work. Thanks to a long-standing partnership, deep industry expertise, and proven flexibility, our team helped deliver seamless collaboration and efficient project execution across Europe and China.
The project began in 2020 and involved numerous stakeholders and development teams spread across regions, requiring seamless coordination and technical expertise. Leveraging our extensive studio engineering experience in China and trusted relationship with Polestar, we worked closely with their team to deliver high-quality results and successfully navigate the complexities of this transition.
Adapting to Polestar’s development process with flexibility and precision
AFRY swiftly assembled a full modelling and studio engineering team, operating from our secure Polestar satellite studio within our facilities. This agile team of Surface Designers and Studio Engineers worked closely with Polestar Design to develop and deliver the digital surfaces for the Polestar 4 vehicle, from concept to production. The project was built around Polestar’s requirements and featured frequent, strictly controlled quality reviews and approvals to maintain high standards.
The team was responsible for creating the digital CAD models that formed the foundation of the vehicle's design development, delivering all CAD data from the early conceptual stages to the production-ready vehicle. As part of the broader Polestar team, we managed progress and coordinated deliveries across stakeholders in Europe and China, fostering clear and transparent communication throughout the project.
“Polestar 4 was a challenging but extremely rewarding collaboration. It allowed us to prove our experience in automotive projects as well as show our strengths and flexibility in creating surfacing and engineering teams, successfully adapting to our clients’ requirements and processes. The collaboration with Polestar was great, we were made to feel like an integral part of the design team, which I think is essential for a successful outcome when working with an outsourced part of a project. I am proud of what we managed to achieve in this project and can't help but admire the car when I see one on the street,” says Renée Park, Digital Modelling Lead, AFRY Experience Studios.
A close partnership with great results
AFRY and Polestar achieved great results through teamwork, flexibility, and simple processes. By integrating seamlessly into Polestar’s development process, we ensured maximum flexibility and efficiency in supporting ongoing projects.
Our strong partnership made it easy to handle new needs and changes while staying focused on Polestar’s goals. We quickly adjusted to shifts in demand without delays or loss of quality, and with AFRY’s quality assurance system, we ensured that everything ran smoothly. This teamwork helped Polestar complete its production deliveries on time and within budget.
