Nordic Paper took a strategic step in its digital transformation by replacing its legacy MES with AFRY PaperLine
The goal was to harmonize manufacturing planning and production across its Scandinavian operations. The project began in March 2024 and was successfully commissioned in autumn 2025. As a result, Nordic Paper now benefits from a more efficient and consistent manufacturing setup that supports scalability and long‑term business value.
AFRY PaperLine is a modern and scalable platform, both technical and functional, which ensures that the system can expand and adapt with Nordic Paper’s operations in the future. In addition, Nordic Paper now benefits access to AFRY’s MES SupportLine, which is a dedicated 24/7/365 service for customers in Sweden, ensuring continued operational reliability and support.
“Thanks to AFRY’s extensive experience in the pulp and paper industry, we were able to apply best practices and leverage lessons learned from previous projects throughout the implementation. This resulted in the successful on-time delivery of a solution configured to Nordic Paper’s business requirements and deployed across all production units,” says Erik Matton, Service Area Manager Industrial IT - Karlstad.
Before the project began, Patric Johansson, IT Manager at Nordic Paper, explained: “When we were looking for a partner, we had several important criteria. We wanted a partner with both local presence and global strength, especially within Scandinavia. It was also crucial to find someone who could work with us in a flexible partnership and who shared our strong focus on innovation.”
Looking back after the project, Patric Johansson confirms that the choice was the right one: “There has been a good dialogue between Nordic Paper and AFRY, and the commissioning was carried out very successfully.”
“The successful commissioning of PaperLine is a great example of what can be achieved through strong collaboration and structured project management. By combining an engaged customer with clear roles and responsibilities, and a well-prepared commissioning plan, we ensured a smooth go-live. Our team’s commitment was key to making this project a success, from user training to 24/7 on-site support.”
