Revolutionising hospital logistics with autonomous mobile robots

Efficient and reliable hospital logistic with advanced automation

AFRY delivers a solution for automatic internal logistics with AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robots) to a new hospital in Norway.

The new hospital is set to benefit from cutting-edge logistics solutions provided by AFRY. Manual logistics in hospitals often face challenges such as inefficiencies, delays, and errors in the handling and transportation of medical supplies, equipment, and medication. These issues can disrupt workflows, increase costs, and negatively impact patient care.

Our solution in a hospital setting

AFRY addressed these challenges by implementing advanced automation and mobile robotics solutions tailored to the hospital's needs. Through the use of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) from Omron and intelligent industrial robotic systems, AFRY ensures seamless transportation of materials within the hospital, reducing dependence on manual labour and eliminating common errors.

These systems optimise resource allocation, streamline transport, and improve the overall efficiency of logistics processes. By leveraging AFRYs expertise in automation, the hospital will experience faster, more reliable supply chains, enhanced scalability, and a safer environment for patients and staff alike. This innovative approach not only boosts operational performance but also ensures the hospital can deliver world-class healthcare services.

For autonomous logistics, we offer an innovative software suite designed to streamline and optimise logistics operations through a modular approach. This suite includes four powerful sub-software solutions: Command, Fleet, Connect, and Vision, each addressing distinct aspects of logistics management.

In a modern hospital environment, our software has been deployed to revolutionise logistics operations by integrating the modules Connect and Fleet into the system. This implementation ensures seamless communication, efficient fleet orchestration, and real-time decision-making, directly enhancing patient care and operational efficiency.

Implementation highlights

Our software module Connect integrated building systems such as automated doors, elevators, and fire alarm with logistics operations. It facilitated real-time communication between supply chain software, inventory systems, and transport management platforms, enabling precise coordination of medical supplies and equipment delivery to ensure timely access to critical resources.

Our software module Fleet coordinates Automated Mobile Robots (AMRs) through a unified interface. It streamlined the transportation of medications, sterile supplies, and other equipment within the hospital network, while supporting scalability to accommodate additional vehicles and future fleet management upgrades.

Benefits achieved

The deployment of our software led to improved patient care by ensuring the timely delivery of medical supplies and equipment, reducing delays in treatment and procedures. Operational efficiency is significantly enhanced through automated workflows and centralised fleet management, while the system’s future-ready design allows the hospital to integrate new technologies and adapt to evolving demands without overhauling existing systems. Additionally, robust data records and traceability ensures compliance with healthcare regulations and supported audits.

By deploying our software, the hospital achieves a seamless, scalable, and intelligent logistics system that directly supports its mission of providing exceptional patient care while maintaining operational excellence.
