Strengthening European Investment Bank's climate adaptation expertise
The objective of this project is to equip the European Investment Bank EIB with the knowledge, skills and tools to strengthen resilience to climate change in EIB investments, and to identify a larger portfolio of adaptation opportunities in support of its Strategy and the Paris Agreement.
AFRY was the lead technical consultant in an international consortium. AFRY provided two of three Key Experts, the Project Coordinator and the Water Adaptation Expert, and supporting experts in the fields of energy, transportation and water adaptation among others. AFRY also took over the team lead role in the latter part of the project.
The project included two components:
- a capacity building program
- support in climate risk management for investment projects.
The services of both components were provided for several EIB sectors, including Natural resources, Energy, Mobility, Innovation & Competitiveness and Urban Development.
During the project, a comprehensive set of e-learning videos and supporting materials were developed for educating the EIB staff about climate risks and climate adaptation in different sectors.
The support for climate risk management covered tens of EIB projects globally but focusing mainly on Europe. There were also few more detailed climate risk assessments that utilized downscaled climate projection data and included also modeling of climate risk related phenomena.
