Industry-leading - Digitalisation and Automation

Digitalisation and automation are powerful tools for developing and optimising logistics processes. By implementing advanced technologies such as IoT, AI, and machine learning, companies can monitor and analyse their logistics chains in real time, enabling faster, value-added and more informed decisions. Automation of repetitive and manual tasks reduces the risk of errors, increases efficiency, and frees up time for employees to focus on more strategic tasks.

For businesses, this means not only improved operational efficiency and cost savings but also increased customer satisfaction through faster and more reliable deliveries. Customers get a better experience with more accurate information about delivery times and improved service quality.

Our Services in Logistics

Simulation Arrow pointing right
Simulation of supply chains, production, warehouses, and logistics
Simulation is a computer-based technology that enables the analysis, visualization, and optimization of complex real-world problems, providing a basis for developing safe and efficient solutions. The ability to model and analyze time-critical events differentiates simulation modeling from other methods, such as those using Excel or linear programming.

Packaging Arrow pointing right
Effective and Innovative Packaging Solutions for a More Sustainable Future
Design and development of packaging solutions often begin at a late stage during product and production development and are rarely fully considered from a logistics perspective. Packaging often has many value-creating opportunities that we are experts at identifying and enabling. We offer our skills and knowledge to help you discover and utilize these opportunities and optimise your packaging according to your specific requirements.
AFRY’s packaging specialists have the combined regulatory, technical, and industry-specific expertise required to maximise the potential of packaging while minimising its environmental impact.

Coordinated goods distribution (CGD) Arrow pointing right
Effective and Smart Solutions for coordinated goods distribution (CGD)
The trends of urbanisation, growing population, and increased need for transportation create a demand for more sustainable logistics solutions with CO2 reduction, especially in larger cities. Municipalities, cities, and regions need to have a holistic view and create conditions for the coordination of deliveries to minimise the number of transports and environmental impact.

Through coordinated goods distribution (CGD), efficient flows of materials and information are created between actors and supply chains. AFRY contributes to sustainable solutions that enable goods consolidation at logistics centres outside the city centre.

  • Reduced number of delivery vehicles in cities.
  • Route optimization with CO2 reduction that reduces the total mileage for each delivery vehicle.
  • Control over which vehicles and fuels are used for the delivery of goods within the city.
  • Reliable delivery times and transparency within the supply chain.
  • Communication and information sharing within the supply chain to enable joint planning.

AFRY carries out assignments in all phases related to coordinated goods distribution:
  • Feasibility study

  • Design of coordinated goods distribution solutions

  • Procurement

  • Implementation

  • Operation and continuous follow-up

Expected results

Coordinated goods distribution generates many positive effects for municipalities, cities, and regions. Additionally, the societal benefits are significant. With one or a few consolidation points outside the city, it becomes possible for even small and local suppliers to compete with larger suppliers who have the volumes and capabilities to deliver goods to multiple delivery points if needed.

Fewer delivery vehicles travelling shorter total distances give CO2 reduction, and using environmentally friendly fuel alternatives, will drastically reduce emissions. Additionally, the total transportation cost will decrease. Fewer deliveries also have a positive effect on safety, as fewer vehicles at the delivery site mean a lower risk of accidents.

By controlling delivery times, rush hours can be avoided, creating positive mobility effects. Reliable and transparent delivery times also enable resource optimization for unloading goods. Staff and necessary unloading equipment can be prepared in advance, speeding up the unloading process and saving time.

Construction Logistics Arrow pointing right
Effective and Sustainable Construction Logistics Solutions
AFRY offers complete consulting and advisory services in construction logistics, from preparation to implementation and operation. We help you create an efficient and sustainable construction logistics solution that addresses multiple challenges and risks.

Construction logistics is crucial for reducing climate impact.

A third of all heavy vehicles on the roads are heading to or from a construction site, and each construction project averages 2-10 deliveries per day, equivalent to 8-10 tons of material. These flows impact both the climate and the social environment and generate significant costs. The industry must also transition from linear flows of newly produced materials to circular flows for increased reuse.

The large material and information flows within construction logistics create more risk areas. AFRY has identified the main risks and developed a concept and process for construction logistics that can be applied by municipalities, regions, and private actors.

Network Design Arrow pointing right
Optimize Your Network Design for Efficiency and Precision in Every Delivery

Distribution structures with local assortments in local warehouses are common.

Sometimes these are a result of mergers and acquisitions. In some cases, the information systems are not adapted and do not communicate at an acceptable level.

The common perception that short local lead times are the most important requirement from end customers is sometimes difficult to overcome.

The result of these types of structures is often a combination of poor inventory availability, unbalanced inventory with high value, obsolescence risk, heavy administration, and high logistics operation costs.

External Warehouse Solutions (3PL and 4PL) for Flexible and Efficient Logistics

Rapidly changing logistics conditions in connection with business transactions, entry into new markets, or change channel strategies can affect distribution conditions.

Decisions about the structure of your operations also include strategies for buying/making regarding certain logistics services. Should you produce warehouse and distribution processes within your own organization or go through 3PL providers? Could it even be relevant to outsource the planning process (4PL) including order management, supplier, and customer contacts?

How do you ensure aspects such as cost, flexibility, IT integration, and risks associated with each option?

This area contains generic components as well as specific conditions in each unique case.

Design and optimisation of Warehouses Arrow pointing right
Design and Optimization of Warehouse Solutions for Efficient Logistics

Today’s warehouses and distribution centres need to deliver faster, more flexibly, and more cost-effectively. Omni-channels enable increased volumes, more complex order structures, and new distribution patterns. This creates a need for a new type of warehouse solution. Warehouse operators must have system support, equipment, layout, and working methods to handle each order to meet customers’ high demands. The operation needs to be both flexible and efficient in a changing environment.

Offer and Execution

AFRY can participate in one or all phases of a project:

  • Needs analysis and requirements specification; data collection and analysis of current and future order structures and material flows, mapping and specifying functions, resources, and processes.
  • Develop solutions, conceptual or detailed.
  • Create tender documents, evaluate and compare offers and suppliers.
  • Implementation of solutions and change management.

We use proven methods and tools for:

  • Project management
  • Data collection, analysis, and presentation
  • Dimensioning and identification of bottlenecks
  • Simulation and virtual commissioning
  • CAD and 3D visualization
