AFRY upgrades the process solutions for TINE in Norway

Fri, 03/07/2020 - 09:00 CEST

To increase the production, the TINE dairy at Storsteinnes is doing a major upgrade of its premises. The upgrade is estimated to MNOK 181 and is TINE’s largest investment in Northern Norway. AFRY has signed the contract to upgrade the process solution at the new cheese production line.

The dairy has seen a large growth in production volume compared to what the plant was designed for nearly 40 years ago when the production equipment was installed. The dairy currently produces 28 million liters of cow milk and 7 million liters of goat milk per year. The new facility will be able to handle an increase of further 11 million liters of cow milk.

Increased environmental benefits and reduced energy consumption

The project is using best practice for increased environmental benefits and reduced energy consumption. As an example, the waste will be greatly reduced in the facilities. A more efficient processing of milk in the modern production line results in less emissions. The energy consumption per kilo of matured cheese is also greatly reduced.

"For the 50 employees working at the dairy, this investment into a better physical working environment will have a positive effect on their welfare and motivation. This is an important signal that TINE wants to be present and invest in the industry in Northern Norway," says Geir Helge Valle, Manager of the TINE dairy in Storsteinnes

"We are proud of the confidence TINE has given us and look forward to providing a sustainable process solution to the dairy," says Hans Vedde, Business Unit Manager Food & Pharma in AFRY.

The contract value is MNOK 13.8 and includes process design, new CIP station, water pasteur, water buffer tanks, valve matrices, integration of both the existing and the new cheese production line, complete electrical and automation of the SattLine, and conversion and integration with the existing process solution.
