ÅF is taking a slightly different approach by producing a music video to encourage more young women to consider a career in engineering. The track is sung by Lund University engineering student, Johanna Sjöberg. The music video also features ÅF employee Jenny Johansson, who was ranked third in Ny Teknik magazine’s list of Sweden’s most influential role models.

The aim of the ÅF song, Curious, is to generate interest in engineering among young women and show what a great profession it is. Jenny Johansson, project manager of the Ostlänken high-speed railway, is delighted to be involved in this production and hopes to inspire younger women to choose an engineering-related profession.

Johanna Sjöberg (JosJ), who sings the track, is excited about her future in engineering. She’s in her fourth year at Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Design, “I like to see how things fit together, how they connect, I also have creative sides – both in music and design – therefore Technical Design suited me perfectly, says Johanna.

As part of EVEN ODDS, ÅF’s gender equality programme, the company is undertaking various activities to show how ÅF is at the forefront of attracting more women into the industry. “Making a music video is a different approach and a new way of communicating our message”, says Nyamko Sabuni, Director of Sustainability at ÅF. The next event in ÅF’s EVEN ODDS process is Ladies’ Month, which kicks off on Thursday 1 October, which is the month when ÅF only recruits women. Other activities include a talent management programme and a mentoring scheme for women, as well as a management training course with inclusive leadership.

The track Curious has been written by songwriter Daniel Falck and produced by Jimmy Palm and Daniel Falck, both from the music and production company AstridE Music. Curious will be available on Spotify, Google Music, Deezer, Tidal, Apple Music and YouTube. Daniel Falck has previously also written the official song for the 2015 Women’s Ice Hockey World Championships (The World Is Mine), also with equality as the main thread.
