AFRY and Hydro Extrusion to collaborate on digitalisation and efficient energy use

Wed, 29/01/2020 - 09:00 CET

AFRY has entered a collaboration agreement with Hydro Extrusion, formerly known as SAPA Profiler, to increase production within the aluminium industry at the same time as reducing costs and climate impact.

Hydro Extrusion is a world-leading company within aluminium profiles. The agreement with AFRY concerns the two manufacturing plants in Sweden. The assignment will begin with an implementation study to confirm the technical solution, which will result in the technical specifications for procurement of the project as well as a final report delivered to the Swedish Energy Agency.

The solutions applied in the implementation will lead to significant savings in terms of both costs and energy use, as well as a reduced climate impact.

“The aluminium industry needs to adapt to have a chance at becoming fossil free, and thereby contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals. This initiative is an important step on the way to Hydro’s global goals of reducing CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030,” says Mats Borneling, Electrical Safety Manager at Hydro Extrusion.

“We are incredibly proud that we, with our broad expertise, are able to be a part of and drive the development within the aluminium industry. New sustainable and digital solutions create significant savings potential,” says Assignment Leader Patrik Sjöstrand, who has worked closely together with Business Developer Magnus Sjöström on this project, from AFRY’s side.

The shift to a more efficient use of energy takes place with support from the Swedish Energy Agency and is a part of an effort to drive development for a reduced climate impact.
