AFRY plans repair and development of the Tampere-Jyväskylä line

Thu, 22/12/2022 - 09:00 CET

The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency has chosen AFRY to carry out the planning of the development phase of the service improvement project for the Tampere-Jyväskylä line. In the project, several improvement measures are planned for the track section, such as additional track sections, renewal of safety devices and measures required to increase the axle weight.

The objective of the track section service improvement project is to improve the travel speed of passenger traffic, ensure that capacity is sufficient with increasing traffic volumes, and reduce the disturbance sensitivity of the track. The part of the track in need of repair has, for example, safety devices, superstructures, rock cuts and bridges.

” AFRY was chosen as our partner, especially in terms of experience with key people, schedule management, process management of various planning stages as well as interaction and communication. AFRY's expertise in rock and structural engineering also convinced The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency. I look forward to the development phase of the design project starting in early 2023. I believe we have a competent and motivated design team to achieve a high-quality result," says project manager Eero Virtanen from The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.

The Tampere–Jyväskylä railway line is one of the main lines of the Finnish railway network. In the development phase of the project, which starts now and will last until fall of 2023, the exact content, schedule and costs of the design are defined. The implementation phase is expected to last until 2026.

” It is fantastic to be involved in this nationally significant rail project, where we get to demonstrate our leading expertise in infrastructure. AFRY can bring to the planning project for the Tampere-Jyväskylä line not only its strong track, tunnel, structural and environmental expertise, but also its extensive experience in various collaborative projects", says Mikko Inkala, President of AFRY’s Transportation business in Finland.
