AFRY develops software tools to meet local energy needs in AFRICA

The challenge

RES4Africa and AFRY Management Consulting Italy have developed a methodology to score a country's energy segments on the dimensions openness, readiness and attractiveness. These scores are calculated by weighing and aggregating answers given in a questionnaire, which is filled out by local experts. An Excel spreadsheet has been used to collect data and to calculate scores.  

The solution - R.O.A.R  

The tool, named R.O.A.R (Regulatory Openness, Attractiveness and Readiness), is a desktop application which replaces the Excel spreadsheet. R.O.A.R let users provide answers to the questionnaires, and to visualize and compare the scores that are calculated. The different charts produced by the tool allow users to discover in which areas their country should focus their efforts, and to benchmark their energy sectors against those of other countries.  

By moving away from Excel the client gets much more freedom and customizability, and reduce the risk of errors that always come with complex spreadsheets. The tool also allows data to be more easily managed by RES4Africa as they collect responses from different participants.

AFRY has provided valuable technical support to RES4Africa for years. This is the first time our Foundation has developed a software tool, and we are very satisfied with the product. Aside from creating a valuable tool that will be used by us and our stakeholders alike, AFRY has also continuously been in close communication with us to understand our needs accurately and analyse valuable feedback from our first Beta-testers in Africa
