ÅF Lighting in the company of royalty

ÅF Lighting illuminates the Royal Palace of Stockholm for the 200th jubilee of the Bernadotte dynasty.

On Sunday, thousands of visitors braved the Stockholm weather to attend the inauguration of a statue of King Karl XIV Johan of Sweden - the grand finale of the 200th jubilee of the Bernadotte dynasty. The equestrian statue and the façade of the Royal Palace stood out in the December darkness, with lighting designed by ÅF Lighting.

We opted for a classic lighting scheme to highlight this important building and statue. Tremendous to get to showcase this beautiful architecture in the winter darkness, especially as the royal family were present, said Martin Petersson, lighting designer in charge.

Since the mid-1800s, the statue has been placed at the Slussen interchange, but as the area is undergoing redesign, it has now been given residence outside of the Royal Palace. The event – which was attended by thousands of visitors – featured a speech by His Majesty the King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, and music composed for the unveiling of the statue in 1854.

- We are honoured and happy to work with the Court and touch the Royal Palace with light, said Kai Piippo, Head of Design at ÅF Lighting.
