LANXESS’ sustainable sulfur carriers production expansion designed by AFRY successfully started-up

Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has completed the expansion of its production capacity for sustainable light-color sulfur carriers in Mannheim, Germany. The plant’s production capacity was increased by two kilotons per year and the project with an investment volume in the double-digit million euro range was completed in around two years as planned. AFRY delivered engineering and project management services to the project since November 2021.

LANXESS offers Extreme Pressure additives that reduce wear on metal surfaces and prevent cold welding. They are used in metalworking fluids, greases, gear oils, and slideway oils. Most LANXESS Additin EP additives are eco-friendly and based on locally sourced, renewable raw materials.

AFRY provided a range of services during project execution, including reviewing and updating the basic engineering package available at project start, value engineering, and detail engineering after final investment decision by LANXESS. The detail engineering services included project management, project controlling, technical procurement, desk expediting, civil, layout and piping, mechanical, and construction execution planning.
