Oil dripping on two wheels

Leading the way in the sustainable chemicals industry in Germany

AFRY supported LANXESS, a specialty chemicals company, for increasing its plant’s production capacity of eco-friendly light-color sulfur carriers in Mannheim, Germany.

LANXESS has completed the expansion and the plant’s production capacity was increased by two kilotons per year and the project with an investment volume in the double-digit million euro range was completed in around two years as planned. AFRY provided engineering and project management services to the project since November 2021.

LANXESS offers Extreme Pressure additives that reduce wear on metal surfaces and prevent cold welding. They are used in metalworking fluids, greases, gear oils, and slideway oils. Most LANXESS Additin EP additives are eco-friendly and based on locally sourced, renewable raw materials.

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important topic for our customers. With our sustainable light-color sulfur carriers, we have the right offering to meet customer needs and further expand our market position in Extreme Pressure additives.

AFRY provided a range of services during project execution, including reviewing and updating the basic engineering package available at project start, value engineering, and detail engineering after the final investment decision by LANXESS. The detail engineering services included project management, project controlling, technical procurement, desk expediting, civil, layout and piping, mechanical, and construction execution planning.

We are honoured to have contributed to this project that will help LANXESS meet its customer needs and further expand its market position. This project has demonstrated that successful project execution requires all project parties to work together with a real team spirit and constructive cooperation, always keeping the new plant as a common goal in mind.
