AFRY supports CME in building one of Asia's largest rooftop solar portfolios
AFRY completes owner’s engineering services in one of the largest portfolios of rooftop solar projects in Asia
Copper Mountain Energy (CME) has developed a large-scale portfolio of rooftop photovoltaic projects in Vietnam that has recently entered into operation. AFRY has supported CME acting as the owner’s engineer until the commissioning phase of the project.
The projects are located in the Vietnamese provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh, and are owned by CME-F1, a project company established by Copper Mountain Energy, a Vietnam-based firm focusing on renewable energy investments and development.
The rooftop solar plants have been constructed across seven sites with a combined capacity of 32 MWp, making it one of the biggest rooftop solar portfolios in Asia. With this massive project, CME-F1 aims to expedite decarbonisation efforts in Vietnam, and has chosen AFRY as its technical partner due to its extensive experience in solar power plant design, ensuring both economic and environmental sustainability of the project.
As the owner’s engineer, AFRY provided design reviews at three stages, including conceptual, technical and construction design, to ensure that the project adhered to international standards and upheld high-quality and safety levels.
The project started commercial operation in the third quarter of 2023.
We are proud to be part of this landmark rooftop solar PV project, which will contribute to Vietnam’s renewable energy goals and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Considering AFRY’s track record of more than 500 solar power projects spanning 80 countries, with a combined capacity of over 90 GW, we are confident in our ability to add value to projects like this. We are glad to assist CME in its vision of a sustainable future
says Petteri Härkki, AFRY’s Regional Director.
AFRY boasts a distinguished track record in providing owner’s engineering services for the construction of over 10,000 MW of thermal, hydro, wind and solar power in Vietnam, representing 15% of the installed power generation capacity. In addition, AFRY has been the Lender’s Technical Advisor for over 5,000 MW of power generation projects in the country.
In Vietnam, AFRY has been involved in a wide spectrum of energy fields, including onshore and offshore wind, ground-mounted, floating and rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV), hydropower, biomass, waste-to-energy, natural gas, liquified natural gas (LNG), nuclear power as well as transmission and distribution, fulfilling roles as technical, market and environmental advisor. Overall, AFRY has performed over 150 power sector assignments in Vietnam and is highly committed in providing services and sustainable solutions to accelerate the transition of the country to a clean energy future.
